The European Lotteries (EL) Responsible Gaming Certification covers several key areas and themes to ensure a comprehensive approach to player protection and responsible gaming.
Among the main themes are:
These areas allow operators to ensure a safe and transparent gaming environment, offering comprehensive consumer protection and guaranteeing compliance with the most advanced ethical standards.
The European Lotteries Certification also guarantees the attainment of the highest certification level under the World Lottery Association (WLA) framework.
The World Lottery Association (WLA) is a global organization that represents major lottery operators and promotes the highest standards of social responsibility among its certified members. Based on a rigorous four-level framework, this certification requires companies to implement policies and programs that protect players, prevent problematic gaming behaviors, and ensure operational transparency.
The certification process involves an in-depth management review of programs and the compilation of questionnaires covering 11 areas examined by the Certifier, including Research, Employee and Retailer Programs, Stakeholder Engagement, and Reporting and Measurement.
The WLA Responsible Gaming Standard thus covers various aspects, in line with the EL framework, including staff training, customer awareness, and research on gaming behaviors.
This certification represents a seal of quality and reliability in the global lottery sector.
Developed by the Global Gambling Guidance Group—an organization made up of an international group of gaming industry experts focused on promoting responsible gaming and reducing harm caused by problematic gaming—the G4 certification program is a global benchmark for the proper application of best practices in responsible gaming according to globally accepted standards and protocols.
The certification, valid for three years, is awarded following audits conducted every 18 months to verify the existence and effective adoption of tools, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the highest level of safety and protection for both consumers and employees.
The parameters considered in the evaluation include, for example, the effectiveness of age verification checks for players, the existence of mechanisms to limit spending and to enable time-limited and indefinite self-exclusion, the presence of clear contacts for assistance if needed, and the actual training provided to staff, particularly those in close contact with customers, to ensure they can provide the necessary information and support to players for a behavior and approach that is responsible.
